Tercero (third conditional)pasado perfecto (past perfect)would have + participiosituaciones irreales en el pasado

If you heat ice, it melts.Si calientas hielo, se derrite.
If I drink coffee at night, I can't sleep.
Plants die if they don't get water.

If it rains tomorrow, we'll stay at home.Si mañana llueve, nos quedaremos en casa.
If you study, you'll pass the exam.Si estudias, aprobarás el examen. No: If you will study.
I won't go if you don't come with me.No iré si no vienes conmigo.

If I had more money, I would buy a house by the sea.
If I were you, I'd talk to her.Yo que tú, hablaría con ella.En un inglés cuidado se usa were con todos los sujetos, sobre todo en If I were you.
What would you do if you won the lottery?¿Qué harías si te tocara la lotería?

If we had left earlier, we wouldn't have missed the train.Si hubiéramos salido antes, no habríamos perdido el tren.
If she had studied harder, she would have passed.Si hubiera estudiado más, habría aprobado.
If I'd known, I would have called you.Si lo hubiera sabido, te habría llamado.Aquí 'd significa had. En I'd call, significa would.

Unless

Unless significa if not (a menos que, si no).

Con if notCon unless
You won't pass if you don't study. You won't pass unless you study.
We'll go if it doesn't rain. We'll go unless it rains.
I can't help if you don't tell me.I can't help unless you tell me.

Errores frecuentes
