英語の受動態
The Passive Voice

能動態と受動態
能動態の文の目的語が、受動態の文の主語になります。be 動詞は能動態の動詞と同じ時制になります。

さまざまな時制の受動態
変わるのは be だけです。過去分詞はどの時制でも同じです。

| 助動詞 | 助動詞 + be + 過去分詞 | This form must be signed. |
否定文と疑問文
否定文と疑問文は、他の be 動詞の文と同じように be の形を使って作ります。

by + 動作主
動作をする人が重要な情報や新しい情報であるときは by を付けます。わからない、言わなくてもわかる、重要でないときは省きます。
The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci.モナリザはレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチによって描かれました。描いた人が重要な情報です。
My car was stolen last night.昨夜、車を盗まれました。誰が盗んだのかわかりません。
The thief was arrested.泥棒は逮捕されました。警察によるのは明らかなので、by は要りません。
受動態を使う場面
受動態は、次の4つの場面でよく使われます。
- 誰がするかより動作のほうが重要なとき：English is spoken here.
- 誰がしたのかわからないとき：My wallet has been taken.
- ニュース、科学、改まった文章：The results were published yesterday.
- 掲示や説明書き：Photos are not allowed.
よくある間違い
最も多い間違いは、be を忘れることと、過去分詞の代わりに過去形を使うことです。
