Comparatives and Superlatives

Gli aggettivi brevi prendono -er e -est, quelli lunghi more e most.

RegolaAggettivoComparativoSuperlativo

Forme irregolari

Alcune parole molto comuni hanno forme proprie, un po' come "buono, migliore, ottimo" in italiano. Vanno imparate a memoria.

L'uso di than

My brother is taller than me.Mio fratello è più alto di me.
Trains are much faster than buses.I treni sono molto più veloci degli autobus.
This one is a bit cheaper than that one.Questo costa un po' meno di quello.

L'uso di the + superlativo

This is the best film I've ever seen.È il film più bello che abbia mai visto.

As ... as e not as ... as

Si usa as + aggettivo + as per dire che due cose sono uguali ("tanto... quanto"). Si usa not as ... as per dire che la prima è inferiore. L'aggettivo resta nella forma base.

StrutturaEsempio
as + aggettivo + asMy phone is as fast as yours.
not as + aggettivo + asTea isn't as strong as coffee.
less + aggettivo + thanThis hotel is less expensive than that one.
